What is Lailokens Awen?
Lailokens Awen is a Canadian company dedicated to creating handcrafted ritual candles, incense, and anointing oils. Every product is carefully made in small batches with an emphasis on quality, craftsmanship, and respect for longstanding spiritual traditions.
My work is inspired by ceremonial magic, Pagan, Celtic, Druidic, and other nature-based practices, while remaining welcoming to anyone seeking meaningful tools for meditation, reflection, ritual, or personal spiritual practice.
Beyond creating handcrafted products, Lailokens Awen is committed to sharing knowledge. Through educational resources, guides, and Grimoire, I aim to help people better understand the history, symbolism, ingredients, and traditional uses of the products I make.
Whether you're just beginning your journey or have years of experience, my goal is to provide thoughtfully crafted products and reliable information to support your personal path.
What does Lailokens Awen mean?
Lailoken is my favourite character from Welsh mythology. He is a sort of proto-Merlyn type figure. I took Lailoken as my Druid name. Awen means creativity or inspiration in Welsh, so Lailokens Awen means Lailokens creativity or Lailokens inspirtation.
Who makes your products?
I do. I make everything that I sell. Not only do I make everything, I also package and label everything, as well as fulfill all the orders.
Where are you located?
Lailokens Awen is located on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada.
Are your products handcrafted?
Yes, all my products are handcrafted in my ritual room by me.
What traditions inspire your work?
My work is inspired by ceremonial magic, specifically the Golden Dawn system of magic, as well as Pagan, Celtic/Druidic traditions.
What wax do you use for your candles?
I use propolis-free beeswax for the beeswax spell candles, and fully-refined paraffin wax (99.6% pure) that is made in Canada for the scented spell candles and votive candles.
How long do your candles burn?
The burn time varies depending upon the candle. The beeswax spell candles typically burn for around 4 hours, while the larger sabbat and altar beeswax candles burn for 8 hours. The votives burn for approximately 10 hours, while the scented spell candles burn for 40 or 48 hours, depending upon the size.
How should I care for my candle?
For candle care, see my page 'Candle Burning Tips"
Are your candles scented?
The beeswax candles are made using propolis-free beeswax so they are unscented. My scented spell candles are all scented with various essential oil blends.
Can I use your candles for everyday relaxation?
Yes, absolutely. In fact, I have candles specifically for that purpose, like the 1.5" x 7" Serenity Scented Spell Candle, or the 2" x 4" Seer Scented Spell Candle and 2" x 4" Brighid's Hearth Scented Spell Candle. But all the candles can be used for relaxation if you find the scent pleasurable.
How do I dress a ritual candle?
Because all my candles are intention-based candles, no additional dressing is required. However, you can add your own magic to them by applying oils to the candle prior to using, or applying oil them rolling the candle in herbs.
What is an anointing oil?
An anointing oil is a specially prepared blend of oils that has traditionally been used to bless, consecrate, or dedicate a person, object, or sacred space. They are commonly used to anoint candles before ritual, bless ritual tools, prepare altars, or as part of personal spiritual practices such as meditation, prayer, or intention-setting. Depending on the tradition, anointing oils may also be applied sparingly to the wrists, temples, or other pulse points, provided the ingredients are suitable for skin contact and used according to the product's directions.
At Lailokens Awen, my anointing oils are handcrafted in small batches using carefully selected ingredients chosen for their traditional associations, aromatic qualities, and intended purpose. Each blend is thoughtfully formulated to support a specific spiritual focus while honoring the craftsmanship and traditions that inspire my work.
How are your anointing oils made?
I blend essential oils together, the specific blend depending upon the intention, then add to the base oil, which is fractionated coconut oil. I then use an oral syringe to bottle them. The bottle I use are amber-coloured glass. The amber blocks light, preventing the anointing oils from going rancid.
Can your anointing oils be applied directly to skin?
Yes, however, everyone is different, and people have different tolerances. To be safe, I recommend doing a patch test first. Apply a small amount of the anointing oil on your inner elbow and let sit. Look for redness or rashiness over the course of several hours. I there's no reaction, the anointing oil will be safe for you. Keep in mind, avoid applying around the eyes, genital, anus, and mucous membranes.
Do you use essential oils?
Yes. All of my scented products (stick incense, scented candles, anointing oils) are made with essential oils, not fragrance oils.
Do you use synthetic fragrances?
No. I only use essential oils.
Where do your essential oils come from?
The essential oils are sourced from all over the world.
Are your ingredients ethically sourced?
Yes. All my ingredients are ethically sourced.
Why do natural ingredients vary?
Natural ingredients are shaped by nature, and no two harvests are exactly alike. Factors such as the growing region, soil, climate, weather, and harvest season can all influence the colour, aroma, texture, and appearance of botanicals, resins, essential oils, and other natural materials.
Just as no two vintages of wine or batches of honey are identical, natural ingredients can vary from one season to the next. These differences are a normal part of working with authentic botanical materials and do not indicate that the quality has diminished.
At Lailokens Awen, I embrace these natural variations. Although there may be subtle differences between batches, every product is handcrafted with the same care and attention to detail.
Where do you ship?
I ship worldwide.
How long does shipping take?
Shipping depends on what shipping option is used, and where it is being shipped to. I can be as quick as 2 - 5 days for Canada, 5-8 days for the US, and about 2 weeks for international destinations.
Do you accept returns?
Yes, I do accept returns under certain circumstances. Please refer to my Refund Policy. You can find the link at the bottom of every page on my website.
What if my order arrives damaged?
If your order arrives damaged, use the 'Contact Form' to get in touch with me so that we can resolve the issue. In the Menu, click 'About' and then 'Contact'.
Are your products suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. What's great about my products is that they are already charged, so you can consider them 'ready-to-go'. If you ever want suggestions on how to use my products, you can use the Contact Form and get in touch with me. In the menu, click 'About' then 'Contact'.
Can your products be given as gifts?
Absolutely. My products make excellent gifts. The intention of each product is clearly stated on the labels, so they are easy to use.
How should products be stored?
I always recommend that my products be stored away from sunlight and sources of heat. The sun can bleach the colour from both the beeswax candles and the scented candles. Heat can cause candles to melt, and for the anointing oils to go off.
How can I contact you?
If you ever need to get in touch with me, you can use the Contact Form. In the menu, click 'About' then 'Contact'. I have a chat feature set up on my website that you can use as well. Keep in mind, I'm the one responding to the chat, not a bot, so if I'm unavailable or if it's nighttime here, you won't get an immediate response. If that happens, when I do respond and you're no longer on the website, my response will automatically be emailed to you.
